FOLARIN’S P.O.V:

Tunde’s wedding invitation sat on my desk for three days before I did anything about it. Not because I forgot. How could I forget Tunde’s wedding?

Tunde himself might have tried to forget the guest list, but the rest of us were invested. Lamide deserved joy. Tunde deserved to be publicly embarrassed by love.

Seyi deserved the opportunity to wear agbada and behave like the reception was his personal fan meeting.

The issue was the plus-one.

The invitation did not say plus-one. It did not need to.

Tunde had said it himself at the hangout.

“Come with someone if you want,” he said, like a man who did not understand that those five words could disturb nations.

Seyi immediately asked if he could come with three people.

Kunle said no.

Tunde said absolutely not.

I laughed then.

But now, sitting in my office, staring at the invitation, one name kept rising in my mind.

Derin.
